Getting Started

There are many ways to play yourself 'into a Club' and here are some which are available in Glenageary Lawn Tennis Club.

Friday Morning: Ladies Morning 10 a.m. 12 noon followed by tea/coffee.

Charitable Leagues: Inter Club event run twice yearly Spring / autumn during the morning, this is a friendly social league from which various charities benefit.

Monday Evening: Men's practice.

Mens & Ladies DLTC Leagues: Class 2 to 7. Round robins and Ladders are used for team selection ensuring fairness for all. There are four main leagues throughout the year Winter Summer mixed and Floodlight. These cover all grades of competitive players, and if you wish to play please sign up on the notice board or contact the Captains.

Singles League: Tennis Ireland run an inter club Singles League twice yearly in Spring and Autumn. Entry is free and you could contact captains for more details or an entry form.

Thursday Evening: Club Nights are at 6.30 p.m. are designed to be enjoyable and involve mixed doubles play. We ask members to switch around regularly and if there is a queue for courts, to play one set only before retiring to allow others a game. Between May and September teas are provided and each member is asked to take a turn in providing these. There is a nominal charge for club nights to cover the tea and lighting of the courts.

Internal Tournaments: Many varied fun tournaments are run during the year usually on Club nights - the captains have discretion as to the format!

Internal Mixed Doubles: This event is run during Spring and Autumn over 5 Sundays and is designed as a team tennis event which is both social and competitive.

Friday Friendly Mixed Doubles: Played against local clubs, this is also a great way to play social tennis and get to know other members.

Club Handicaps: Open to all members and we aim to level the pitch by handicapping in order to give longer games and lower graded players a chance against the higher grades. This finishes with a barbecue on finals evening.

Club Championships: In autumn our social activities culminate with the Club Championships and "At Home" which are held during August/September. However that's not the end as Leagues start in September and run virtually all year round so there is something for everyone.
